Heavy Rainfall Affects Trains and Flights in Chennai as Cyclone Approaches Tamil Nadu

Heavy rain fell overnight in Chennai city and its surrounding districts; in the 24 hours running up to 5:30 am this morning, Meenambakkam recorded 196 mm of rain and Nungambakkam, 154.3 mm

Chennai: With Cyclone Michaung circling the Bay of Bengal and moving toward the coast of Andhra, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are seeing deluges of rain.

Thiruvallur district received the most of the heavy rainfall that was reported over Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam, and Cuddalore districts in north coastal Tamil Nadu.

The majority of Chennai is under water, with low-lying areas experiencing severe flooding. Tomorrow at noon, the cyclone is predicted to make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam.

Heavy rain fell overnight in Chennai city and its surrounding districts; in the 24 hours leading up to 5:30 am this morning, Meenambakkam recorded 196 mm of rain and Nungambakkam, 154.3 mm.

Because of this, government offices, educational institutions, and public schools in Chennai and its three surrounding districts will be closed today. Additionally, the state government has urged private businesses to permit their workers to work from home.

In order to help those impacted by the intense rain that battered the city and its surrounding districts throughout the night, authorities have established approximately 5,000 relief centers in coastal districts. MK Stalin, the chief minister, examined the safety precautions last night and is keeping a careful eye on the situation.
